I'm Sandra again. I'd like to tell you that I leave and I go back to Spain. This desition was difficult for me to choose but finally I know for sure what I really want to do. I'd like to tell you that it was great to be here: play frisbi, meet people, stay in club opening, play ˝Ena˝ in club Sonček, go to Celje and visit museums in Ljubljana and other cities, carnaval… We can make a farewell party for good departure if you want! | PRESENTING AUSTRIA |
|
This week I had to present Austria in the school where I work here. I had 1 hour to prepare myself and I had decided to start the presentation with a simple question:
˝What do you already know about Austria?˝
As it is Slovenia's neighboring country I was sure that there would be at least some things coming to their minds, and indeed all the hands were up in less than a second.
˝They have a lot of good skiers there˝, was the first reply. Then they came up with mountains, snow, the capital city and one girl even remembered Mozart being from Salzburg. As you can never get rid of clichés, they of course also mentioned jodeling.
I was quite satisfied with this first few things, but as I asked them how many of them already had been to Austria, I was shocked. Nearly all of them had been there, several even quite often, and all they could come up with were the usual stereotypes. I thought that that was probably because of their age, but nevertheless, I think that it is not that clear anymore that you really get to know the places you travel to. Only if you really try to see behind the courtain made for tourists you will be able to find out something about the country how it really is…

Hello, I am Patricio and I'm from Spain. Everybody thinks that they know a lot of things about Spain, but that is not true. Ricky Martin is not Spanish, ˝Rebelde˝ neigther, Enrique Iglesias is, but we aren't proud of that. Spain is not Mexico, so, we don't sing ˝La Cucaracha˝ everytime, we don't eat spicy food, and we don't wear mexican hats. In Spain the cities were built first, and later the football teams, and not vice versa.
Spain is a big country in the west of Europe, in summer there is a lot of heat, but in winter there is also cold. The people are jolly, but there are a lot of kinds of people, like in every country.
In Spain there are a lot of beaches. In Summer Everybody goes to the beach, because a lot of people have a house on the beach or they know someone who has a house on the beach.
